Early Development

  • We give our puppies the foundation to move forward in their lives with confidence, a sound body and mind, so once you take them home it's your job to continue to socialize your puppy to foster what we have already given them!

  • Being home full time means there is always someone around to care for your puppy right from the start - the first 8 weeks is the beginning of the very precious and highly important canine imprinting stage that can not be redone.

  • The most influential time in a puppy's life is between 3 and 16 weeks. Fear begins to develop slowly in a puppy at about 5 weeks of age and slowly increases until it peaks in the fear imprint stage during the 8th week. (Fear is not present in newborn puppies).

  • There is a very precious window of opportunity between 3 and 6 weeks of age when their anxiety levels are at their lowest they will ever be in their entire lives! Anything your puppy is exposed to during this time will therefore be associated with low anxiety. It will be forever ingrained in their central nervous system and will always be associated as something that is pleasant or neutral because during this period it is then interpreted as a non fearful, non anxiety producing experience or object.

  • This is the time when we start incrementally introducing the puppies to stressors that they will most likely encounter later in life.

  • We also work with the puppies to develop their problem-solving skills, mental agility as well as mental coordination because these experiences are permanently ingrained during this time!!

  • With all of this being said, it is your responsibility to do your research and ask what type of socialization program others have in place and how the puppies are being worked with - I feel this is a very important distinction between breeders. Please do your homework and choose your breeder wisely!

A Holistic Approach

  • Holistic Approach is our foundation - our Goldendoodles and Cavapoos are bred for temperament and health, first and foremost. We have an excellent holistic and homeopathic Vet who we've been using for almost two decades now. We have the same philosophy which is treating the dog as a whole and as naturally as possible.

  • Natural Rearing is simply utilizing and promoting the old, natural ways, which includes feeding a raw diet, allowing the dogs to spend time outdoors in the sunshine, on the dirt and grass, supporting natural immunity and using safe/natural alternatives to chemicals, in order to give each dog the opportunity to live a long life of wellness and well being.

  • Holistic or Natural Rearing essentially means doing everything for your dog as closely to nature as possible.

  • For a wealth of information and to see our Natural Rearing listing please visit www.naturalrearing.com

  • In keeping with our holistic approach we do not dock tails, remove dewclaws or vaccinate our puppies until as close to 8 weeks of age as possible. For those families that would prefer not to vaccinate their puppy until a later date, please let us know so we can make arrangements.

  • I encourage you to do a bit of research when it comes to vaccinations and your options!! Ask your Vet about Titer testing (costs about $100-$150), which is simply taking 1ml of blood and having it analyzed to see how much of the vaccination your dog has in its system and if in fact they actually need a booster or not. Some vaccinations are good for 5 to 10 years!

  • We only use natural cleaners in our home (mainly white vinegar and baking soda) as well as natural laundry detergent to ensure that none of us are unduly exposed to toxins within our home. We also use aromatherapy to purify, cleanse and refresh the air and atmosphere around our home.

Premium Nutrition

  • We feel the foundation to a healthy dog is premium nutrition and we use local raw bones, meat and supplements like molasses, salmon oil, kelp, apple cider vinegar, garlic, vitamin E, alfalfa and more.

  • Raw Food is what we feel nature has intended; which is biologically appropriate raw food (BARF). This approach to feeding local raw meat, fruits, veggies and bones supports our Natural Rearing philosophy.

  • The nutrition found in raw food also provides EHA and DPA which supports the brain, eyes and mood of developing Doodles and Poodles and grown adults too. We increase the amount of fish oils our dogs receive with Grizzly Salmon Oil, which is wild from Alaska.

  • We also supplement with Nutrify which provides a whole food source of vitamins and minerals from kelp, spinach, parsley, wheatgrass, barley grass, flax seed and spirulina.

  • For additional calcium we cook egg shells, grind them up into a fine powder and sprinkle it on top of the raw food everyone receives. This is a natural source of calcium and allows for greater absorption compared to a synthetic supplement.

  • Raw food helps contributes to a stable temperament, fresh breath, clean teeth, low-oder stool, lower Vet bills, softer, shinier coat, brighter and clear eyes, whiter, brighter and stronger teeth, improved skin conditions, stronger immune system to help fight disease and infection, increase in energy and vitality and much more.

  • Please note that the average, store bought raw food is sufficient and doesn't necessarily require the extras we add to ours. We feel it is important to top up our nursing moms to ensure their growing needs are met. The raw food you would buy for your dog is as simple as thaw and serve!!

Early Neurological Stimulation

  • I have a very keen interest in neurological development and how I can affect a puppy and its individual growth!

  • As a breeder it is my personal goal to continue to learn and build my breeding program and continue to set myself apart from others! I don't take my responsibility of being a breeder lightly and I am the type of person that puts 110% into everything I do!

  • Early Neurological Stimulation is our Super Dog Program and has been used by the Army for centuries. We start our program on the 3rd day of the puppies life and lasts until the 16th day.

  • The main benefits that have been observed in canines exposed to the early neurological stimulation exercises are:

    • Improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate)

    • Stronger heart beats

    • Stronger adrenal glands

    • More tolerance to stress

    • Greater resistance to disease

Volhard's Puppy Aptitude Testing

  • Volhard's Puppy Aptitude Testing is our way of assuring that you will find the best puppy that matches your lifestyle, family situation and needs. MOST puppies are cute and should only be placed based on unbiased and professional testing that is the outcome of our Volhard Testing.

  • This series of Tests is done on day 49 (7 weeks) of the puppies life, when their brains are neurologically complete.

  • This gives you a snap-shot of what your puppy will most likely be as an adult dog (as long as you continue all of the hard work we have been doing on our end). That is why we don't make puppy selections until day 49.

  • We are also very honored and pleased to help support those that have extra needs in their life - from depression, anxiety, physical needs, developmental delays etc. We can help guide you to the best puppy based on your individual needs - please ensure you share your information, so we can support you on your journey!

Our Guardian Home Program

  • Our Guardian Home Program is the best way possible for us to know our dogs are always loved, cared for and happy...in their forever home.

  • We do not believe in putting our dogs in runs where they are under-socialized and over bred - each of our beloved dogs only live in the very best of homes and are family pets first!!!

  • If you consider that studies have shown that when an expectant mother is petted, the litter is more docile, then doesn't it make sense to only ever get a puppy from a breeder that considers their dogs as beloved family pets first!!

  • The actual petting and love they receive in their homes activates the parasympathetic system, which facilitates relaxation, emotional attachment and socialization! Puppies from a loved mother have a greater tolerance to being handled than puppies from mothers who lack love and affection!

  • We are currently looking to place puppies/dogs. Please visit our "Guardian Program Info" page to find out more and to see pictures as well.

About Red Maple Doodles

Welcome to Red Maple Doodles. My name is Lisa and we are a small, in-home breeder that is conveniently located within the Lower Mainland - one hour east of downtown Vancouver, BC.

Our goal is to raise the best mini to medium sized Goldendoodle & Cavapoo puppies you have ever met!  We raise our puppies as a family - the kids name them, help with socialization, snuggles, cuddles and love - my husband and I do the rest with the help of my very active mom too.
